George Roach is a third-generation poultry farmer and the Director of Oakland Farms Limited, based in North Yorkshire. After earning a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management from Harper Adams University, he became a Chartered Surveyor in 2017. Shortly thereafter, George returned to his family’s farming business, which includes six broiler units, a compound feed mill, renewable energy ventures, and let commercial property.

In 2023, George was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship, sponsored by The Poultry Meat Group. His study, titled “There is a buzz around insect protein in the broiler industry, does the idea have legs?”, involved travelling across Europe and Africa. He investigated the potential of integrating insect protein into broiler feed as a sustainable alternative to imported soya, examining various insect species, production systems, and feedstocks.
