9th September 2014 – Shropshire Golf Centre
48 golfers of varying shapes and handicaps assembled on a beautiful day at the Shropshire Golf Centre to contest for the coveted EPIC Golf Trophy. The annual event is eagerly awaited by the bandits in the industry some of who must have dreamt up their handicap in their sleep.
Playing stableford format over 27 holes on a lovely day in beautiful countryside should be most peoples idea of heaven, but alas, most of the golfers this correspondent saw were managing to turn the day into putting hell. 3, 4 or on 1 occasion at least, 5 putts were much in evidence as the golfers battled the tricky greens on this lovely course.
All in all though a terrific day that was much enjoyed by all of those who attended. With great prizes on offer thanks to our sponsors particularly – Aviagen and PD Hooks, but also including Faccenda, Easichick, LA Systems, J F Mckenna, Hooks 2 Sisters, BOCM PAULS, Oval Insurance and Alltech there was much to play for with the winner also going to the conference as a guest of the organising committee.
The winner for the 2nd year running was Paul (Pedro) Hutton who just managed to beat David (my handicap is true – honest) Harkin on count back with Andy Dutton coming in 3rd. Paul is pictured with his award right.
Next year the golf competition will be held on the 8th of September on Montgomerie Course at Celtic Manor. Why not come along and join in. You will not regret it.
Finally I would like to thank Stephen Povey for his great help in assisting me with the organisation of another terrific day.
