Mark Jones would happily admit that hosting Award Ceremonies and Sporting dinners is his specialist subject; he gets to meet his heroes, gets paid, and, most importantly, he gets fed. Mark has compèred hundreds of events across the length and breadth of the UK and beyond over the years, working with many of his sporting idols; included in the (very) long list are David Beckham, Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, Frank Bruno, Jimmy Greaves and Sir Alex Ferguson. He also hosted a very successful “sportsmen’s-dinners-for-the-troops” tour of Kosovo with the late Alan Ball, MBE and Jack Charlton, OBE.
Mark was asked to host the sell-out Man Utd vs Man City legends match at the 17,000 capacity MEN Arena with Sir Alex Ferguson, Kevin Keegan and singer Russell Watson; a charity event for the Dependents of the New York Firefighters. (Mark was only a few blocks away from the World Trade Center Towers on that morning of 9/11 and reported “live” from Ground Zero for UK radio for several days after the tragedy). He regularly hosts the Manchester United Player-of-the-Year awards at Old Trafford plus numerous other prestigious corporate events, charity fundraisers and golf days, etc., throughout the UK, he’s even hosted CRUFTS at the NEC, Birmingham. He’s also covered Manchester United and Liverpool pre-season American Tours for UK radio.
He’s the regular host for the Masters’ Football Series, shown live on Sky Sports (including their Dubai, Vietnam and Malaysia Tournaments); he’s often heard as match day stadium announcer for Everton FC’s home games at Goodison Park. Add to that regular man-on-the-pitch-with-a-microphone at Knowsley Road for World Club Champions, St Helens RLFC, and was the on-pitch announcer at Headingley for Leeds Rhinos’, and is often seen at Old Trafford for Lancashire CCC.
As an avid sports fan, (the colour green on his TV wears out before any other) Mark has been seen on the pitch presenting pre-match entertainment at both Liverpool and Everton FC, and spent several seasons at Tranmere Rovers. Mark has featured on Channel 4 and Sky Sports at all the One Day cricket Internationals, Test Matches and County games for a couple of seasons, around the UK. He presented all the pre-match interviews on the big screen with legends Ian Botham, David Gower, Michael Holding, Richie Benaud and David “Bumble” Lloyd.
Mark Jones is also one of the most experienced radio presenters currently on-air in the UK. Starting as a pimply youth in his hometown at GMR (then BBC Radio Manchester), he graduated to Liverpool’s Radio City, lost his pimples and won several radio awards. These include a prestigious Sony nomination for hosting Michael Jackson’s concert at Aintree Racecourse, (the “biggest solo concert in history”) entertaining the crowd of more than 125,000. After three very successful years at the North West regional station, 105.4 Century FM, Mark returned to Radio City’s Magic 1548 in Liverpool; he also regularly hosts a daily networked show broadcast throughout the UK on the Magic Radio Network, plus is also often heard on Manchester’s Magic 1152 (formerly Piccadilly Radio). Not limiting his talents to just radio, Mark has written and published several books, including the best-selling “Mark Jones’ Birthday Book”, which became the definitive UK Radio reference book.

”I thought Saturday went brilliantly well. Thanks for your help – I felt that you brought it all together extremely well. The client was very pleased (which is always a good thing!) Of course I will think of you when we need another professional MC…” Lisa Drury, Waterside Events, Leeds.
”Thanks for your fantastic input so far this season. You have been fabulous, I jest not! This has been reflected by the general feedback, well done.” Steve Black, Director, Masters Football Limited.
”We have had lots of great feedback about the night and how professional it all was, even some about our “wonderful compère”, wasn’t he hilarious? …you kept the whole thing flowing, and made all the difference and took a lot of the stresses and strains of the night off us. There is no way the auction and raffle would have generated so much interest if you had not been there.” Terry White, Event Organiser, Thornton, Wirral.
”Thank you for hosting our Leeds Football Tournament. Your compère skills were second-to-none and I felt you helped to pull the day together and add to the friendly, but competitive, atmosphere. A great success, not just for us, but for ChildLine too. Thanks for your creative input and hard work.”
– Paul Oldridge, Managing Director, McInerney Homes, Leeds.
”The Emirates Stadium (Ernst & Young) event seemed to go well and we made a good double act during the auction!!”
– Fabian Hine, Professional Auctioneer, MC & Hammer.
”Thanks for all your help and support to help make the night an enjoyable occasion for so many people. At the game on Saturday, and also today, I’ve heard nothing but nice words about the way it went and the way you, Willie John McBride and comedian Austin Knight entertained people. If I do an event like it again I’ll be sure to look you up.”
– Nick Warren, Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club.
