Brendan undertook an undergraduate degree in Zoology at Trinity College Dublin, followed by an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare at Edinburgh University.

After completing his PhD in 2016 at the Roslin Institute, Edinburgh University, during which time he undertook an MSc in Quantitative Genetics and Genome Analysis. His PhD thesis focussed on genetic improvement of skeletal leg architecture in ducks and chickens and the optimisation of gait scoring, in collaboration with Cherry Valley Farms.

Brendan has worked at Aviagen as a breeding programme geneticist since 2016.
