2017 Event Details51st EPIC Conference to be held at Celtic Manor
29th – 30th October 2017
Introduction for 2017 Event
Brexit – standing on our own two feet!
In 2016 EPIC celebrated its 50th birthday with a stunning array of speakers with a resounding response from our delegates of the “best ever”.
Those of you who were able to be with us were treated to a trip down memory lane from some of the elder statesmen of our industry and were then given a glimpse of the future from our “young guns” speakers. We were also privileged and enriched by the attendance of many of the previous winners of the prestigious BPC/BOCMPAULS Person of the Year award over the last 50 years. Old acquaintances were renewed and new friendships formed confirming the staying power of our industry, but the desire to move forward.
For those of you who were unable to attend, our website remains an excellent resource to see what you missed in both the written word and pictures. Indeed to improve your experience of our conference even more as we move into our next half century you will notice that the website has been completely reviewed and upgraded.
An EPIC History of the Poultry Industry
2016 also saw the launch by EPIC of a unique publication charting the development of our industry over the last 50 years, recognising the events and people that have shaped and influenced our sector. The hard copy of this book was made available to delegates attending the 2016 conference and was enthusiastically welcome by all present. It is hoped that this will be an evolving resource for all those involved or interested in the history of our industry and a major project has been to make this book available on our website here. Please take time to read this and immerse yourself in the history. However, as we are a forward thinking industry we encourage all of you to identify any omissions or even errors and update us on topics to be included. Our aim is that this resource will evolve, expand and adapt as we do. Your contributions will be gratefully received and acted on.
The 2017 Conference
In celebrating the developments that have occurred in our industry we were conscious of the worries and opportunities that the referendum decision last June and the subsequent Brexit discussions and negotiation present us with. Perhaps understandably our chosen theme for the 2017 conference will centre around Brexit and “Standing on our own two feet”.
Our chief aim is to explore what Brexit may mean for our industry and how we will then compete with the rest of Europe and globally, but also within UK, depending on how EU law settles into a future domestic agenda. Last years conference demonstrated the strengths of our industry and its ability to cope with change. The challenges and indeed potential opportunities Brexit presents us with must be at the forefront of our thinking and planning for the next decade.
We already have some high profile and entertaining speakers confirmed for 2017 and as the year progresses the website will keep you updated on developments into what we think will be a fitting follow up to our most successful conference in 2016.
We return again to Celtic Manor as one of the few UK venues able to stage such a high profile event. So sign up to secure your place at the most important get together of our industry this year and hear how we may cope with one of the most important chapters in our development.
We look forward to welcoming you again to Celtic Manor.
